Marriott International has debuted its premier luxury brand in the Maldives, with the opening of JW Marriot Maldives Resort & Spa. Located in Shaviyani atoll in the north, the resort is a 55-minute seaplane ride away from Velana International Airport.
The luxury resort features 60 villas, located on the beach and over water. The rooms come in four categories; Duplex Beach Pool Villas, Duplex Overwater Pool Villas, and Beach Pool Villas and Overwater Pool Villas with a view of the sunrise or the sunset. The villas draw inspiration from the natural surroundings and local culture, featuring thatched roofs and slanted roof tips.
With three bars, a chef’s garden and five restaurants, guests can feast on a wide range of cuisine that goes beyond classical Maldivian dishes. Highlights include Thai cuisine prepared by a former Nobu Chef in a treetop restaurant, authentic Japanese Teppanyaki, poolside wood-fire pizza, and freshly caught seafood served at the fine-dining restaurant. Meals are complemented with a choice of sake, Japanese whisky, rum cocktails, smoked cocktails, and a choice of new and old-world wines.
An iconic Spa by JW, overwater gym and an open-air yoga pavilion offers indulgent spa treatments and a daily schedule of yoga and fitness activities.
The island’s surrounding natural reef is teeming with sea life. An on-site marine biologist ensures the pristine reef remains untouched and in perfect health whilst overseeing diving and snorkelling trips.
JW Marriot Maldives Resort & Spa is the hotel chain’s fifth property in the country. Marriott’s brands in the Maldives include St. Regis Hotels & Resorts (The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort), W Hotels (W Maldives), Sheraton Hotels & Resorts (Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa), and Westin Hotels & Resorts (The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort).
