Summer Island Maldives celebrated its fifth anniversary on 1st March 2020. The celebrations kicked off with repeater guests planting five palm trees, symbolising five years of Summer Island. The event was followed by a special cocktail party with live music to mark the ‘Summerversary’. The resort’s staff also signed a five-part pledge to reduce wastage of energy, reduce single-use plastic pollution, and to promote a healthier lifestyle among staff.
Summer Island Maldives will run a week-long celebration with special activities and promotions for guests, including exclusive promotions at Baraveli Bar and the Water sports Center.
Summer Island, located in north Male’ atoll, is one of the first resorts to be opened in the Maldives. In 1996, Kaimoo group acquired Ziyaaraifushi and rebranded it as Summer Island Village. In 2015, the island was rebuilt entirely and rebranded as Summer Island Maldives.
The resort was recently awarded the prestigious Holiday Check Gold Award for Being One of Maldives’ Most Popular Resorts. It was also awarded South Asia’s Leading Beach Resort and Maldives’ Leading Beach Resort at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 SATA awards.
Summer Island Maldives made headlines recently by installing the world’s largest 3D printed reef, in a bid to help corals adapt to a warming climate. The project is part of the resort’s environmental initiatives, which have also seen recent bans on plastic bottles, bags and drinking straws, and a shift to solar power.
