COVID-19 put a damper on end-of-Ramadan festivities but Summer Island Maldives took to social media to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with a body beru show and a special song.
The past few years has seen the resort burrow deep into Maldivian tradition on these special occasions. Summer Island is now known for its processions, dances and games such as bodu mas, koadi, maali and other forms of classic local entertainment.
These celebrations are a huge hit with the staff and guests, and visitors from Male have flocked to the resort for Eid festivities in recent times.
Resort Manager Mari Shareef said: “This year we miss our guests, especially the children visiting us and enjoying Eid. Even though we don’t have any guests, we are still celebrating Eid. We made a special video song and had a live boduberu show from 5-6 pm on Eid day. Eid Mubarak to everyone.”
Located at Ziyaaraiy Fushi, Male Atoll, Summer Island Maldives is among the early resorts in the archipelago. Kaimoo Group acquired Ziyaaraifushi in 1996 and rebranded it as Summer Island Village. The island underwent a complete makeover in 2015 and became Summer Island Maldives. Popular with internationals and locals alike, Summer Island is just 40 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport.
The resort was recently awarded the prestigious Holiday Check Gold Award for being one of Maldives’ Most Popular Resorts. It also garnered South Asia’s Leading Beach Resort and Maldives’ Leading Beach Resort at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the SATA awards.
