This time, we checked out Yuji Yamazaki’s Instagram – he’s the architect who’s shaping the look of some of the Maldives’ most premium properties.
And he’s posted a couple of shots of the new Kagi Maldives Spa Island.
We got in touch with an architect who described this jetty as a minimal, artistic and graceful place, with the roof like a ‘brushstroke’. On the whole, it seems to resemble a Japanese logogram, and there is clearly a gentleness about it despite the harsh vertical lines – the curvature of the roof softens the structure’s overall impact on the eyes, making the viewing experience intensely pleasurable. It feels like a gate incorporating other gates that lead in and out of the resort, a symbol of grace and movement.
Yamazaki has designed two striking properties in the Maldives, CCR’s Hurawalhi Island Resort (where he conceived its public spaces) and the highly acclaimed Kudadoo Maldives Private Island. At both places he artfully weds tropical and Japanese elements. Kagi will mark his third resort and we can’t wait to see more of it.
