A swanky new VIP terminal opened for service at the Velana International Airport on Friday (7 January).
The Maldives Airports Company Ltd, operator of the country’s main airport, commenced its Maamahi Executive Lounge operations in the ground floor of the four-storey building. The new VVIP lounge accommodates up to 95 customers at a time.
Based on a design concept by world-renowned architect Yuji Yamazaki and built by Chinese contractor Beijing Urban Construction Group, the 6,800-square metre terminal has separate lounges for VVIPs and VIPs as well as F&B and duty-free shopping areas.
The first and second floors are dedicated respectively for VIP and CIP services under phase two of the project, which is expected to be completed in 2022.
