The Italian flag carrier ITA Airways has added its Malé to Rome service as a permanent route to its winter holiday network.
Direct flights from Rome to Malé operated thrice-weekly – and up to five times a week during peak periods – from December to early April. The return of the route to ITA’s Winter 2023/24 season was prompted by the popularity of the service.
The seasonal service is scheduled to resume on 17 December with weekly flights between Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport and Malé’s Velana International Airport until 25 March. Frequency details are yet to be confirmed.
“This connection aims at further developing our network by identifying destinations of greatest interest and with the highest potential not only for the final customer but also for business partners, tour operators and travel agencies. ITA Airways passengers will also be travelling to the Maldives with convenient connections not only from Italy but from all over Europe,” ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer Emiliana Limosani said in a statement in December.
Traditionally a top source market, Italy is the fourth largest market this year with 55,594 visitors as of 27 April, representing a market share of 8.3%.
