Maldives has once again won the World’s Leading Destination at World Travel Awards (WTA), making it the fourth consecutive year the country achieved this honor, amid fierce competition by global renowned tourist destinations including Dubai, Indonesia, New Zealand, Spain and Vietnam, among others.
The Maldives also received the newly-introduced Global Tourism Resilience Award, which is presented to 5 leading tourist destinations for strategically building capacity to recover swiftly and thrive after disruptions. Maldives was also nominated for the World’s Leading Beach Destination, World’s Leading Dive Destination, World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, World’s Leading Island Destination and World’s Most Romantic Destination.
Additionally, Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the national tourist board of the Maldives, acquired the World’s Leading Tourist Board 2023 title, marking it the second time the tourist board has won the accolade at WTA.
The WTA was first established in 1993 and is the most prestigious honors program in the global travel and tourism industry recognized internationally as the pinnacle of industry excellence. The selection of winners is carried out by a voting system consisting of qualified travel professionals working with the travel and tourism industry along with consumer buyers. The World Travel Awards 2023 was held at Dubai’s Burj Al-Arab, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
