Maldives showcases its offerings at ATF 2024

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) collaborated with the National Hotel and Guest House Association (NHGAM) and the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) to showcase Maldivian offerings for the Bangladeshi market at the Asian Tourism Fair (ATF) Dhaka, held from 19th to 21st September 2024. As the prime partner country of ATF 2024, the Maldivian delegation consisted of 37 representatives from 23 industry partners, promoting leisure and affordable luxury travel among Asian countries, particularly the emerging Bangladeshi market. 

ATF Dhaka is an in-depth fair consisting of tourism business networking and coordination between the private sector, organizations, and development agencies in Asian nations. The event provides opportunities for establishing linkages among people to people, people to destinations, and country to country. In addition to the main travel trade exhibition focusing on B2B and B2C, sideline events such as the exhibition of sustainable initiatives, seminars, workshops, and cultural exchanges also take place. The event features a community-based tourism mart and a tourism skills convention aimed at tourism marketeers and professionals. 

The Maldivian stand at ATF 2024 showcased the unique aspects and features of Maldives, as well as activities such as traditional food tasting options and a display of tourism products, with a focus on affordable luxury and family travel segments. The Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC Zihuny Rasheed commented, “As a leading tourism destination, Visit Maldives is committed to promoting itself as a premier travel destination. Together with NHGAM and MATATO, we are working tirelessly to create innovative marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships that showcase the beauty, diversity, and sustainability of our islands.”

Maldives welcomed a total of 18,843  arrivals from Bangladesh as of 30th July 2024, currently ranked 14th in total arrivals to the Maldives worldwide, with a market share of 1.6%. Tourist arrivals from Bangladesh to the Maldives have increased by at least 38% this year, demonstrating the market’s resilience and potential for further growth for the Maldivian tourism industry.
