Maldives wins WTA’s World’s Leading Green Destination title

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) announces that Maldives has been honored as the World’s Leading Green Destination at the World Travel Awards 2024, amidst fierce competition featuring 8 renowned destinations, including Chile, Madagascar, Norway, and Peru. This marks the first time the Maldives has received the esteemed global accolade.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized as the World’s Leading Green Destination for the first time,” said the CEO and MD of MMPRC, Ibrahim Shiuree. “This award highlights our dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable tourism practices. We will continue to strive for excellence in preserving our pristine natural environment for generations to come.”

Beyond its environmental achievements, the Maldives also secured the World’s Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2024, which was held on 24th November 2024, in Madeira, Portugal. This year witnessed significant accolades, with Maldives being named WTA’s Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2024 as well as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2024 and Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2024.
