Living it LUX* – North Male’s hot new property

1 min read

On the tiny island of Olhahali, about an hour north of Male, sits Mauritian hospitality brand LUX*’s newest bauble in the Indian Ocean.

This time, the concept is a boutique island resort with large penthouse villas inspired by the curves and lines of luxury yachts. Interiors are simple and clean with plenty of seating and lounging options.

Unsurprisingly, LUX* North Male Atoll favours a predominantly white theme with touches of red; the branding is impeccable, a continuation of LUX*’s sister property down in South Ari.

Reasons to go LUX*, the brand’s touchpoints, include a specialty coffee outlet, an ice cream parlour and something visitors to South Ari will be familiar with; a London-style telephone booth where one can place a call to anywhere in the world, gratis.

A foodie island, the resort’s home to a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant above the main food outlet ‘Glow’ and a selection of fine old-world wines.

The Maldives’ minister of tourism Ali Waheed praised the uniqueness of the property at its official inauguration last Friday. The resort makes a bold statement, moving away from ‘the sea of sameness’, as chief operations officer Dominik Ruhl said.
