Summer Island shines at Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge

The chefs of Summer Island won top prizes at this year’s Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge, held at Dharubaaruge in Male’ this month.  

Now in its 15th year, the culinary competition pits chefs, both local and international, against one another in a number of categories.  

Summer Island’s chefs won in nine competitions. Mohamed Faneez won a gold medal in the category of creating a Maldivian dish.  

G. W. Dinesh Madushanka won silver in the category ‘Hot Cooking Beef’, and also a bronze medal in ‘Hot Cooking Fish Fillet’.  

Ramesh Ramasamy won silver in ‘Creative Asian Dish’. 

Mohamed Kannaiyan and Pushkar secured bronze medals in the ‘Hot Cooking Fish Fillet’ and ‘Hot Cooking Poultry’ categories, respectively. 

Other Summer Island winners include: Byju Chathoth Kurungara, Roman Miah, and Shankar Karuppusamy. 

The resort was also honoured at the 2019 South Asia Travel Awards in July, winning “South Asia’s Leading Beach Resort” for the third year running. It also won “Leading Beach Resort in Maldives,” for the third consecutive year.
