Maldivians get up to 100 free COVID-19 tests a day at the Maafaru coronavirus testing lab in Noonu Atoll, a press release from Soneva states.
The lab is a joint venture between Soneva Foundation and Velaa Private Resort and was recently reopened following upgrades to increase testing capacity. It has also reduced costs to test everyone else from USD55 to USD40.
Soneva is a staunch believer in robust testing of both hotel employees and guests to identify COVID-19 cases and quarantining carriers to stop the spread of the virus.
The Soneva Foundation, a UK registered non-profit, is known to invest in community-based projects such as Namoona Baa, a community campaign to eradicate single use plastics, address waste management issues on local islands and put an end to the open burning of garbage.
