Tourist arrivals in the first five days of 2022 increased by 56 percent compared to the same period last year.
A total of 24,527 arrivals were recorded as of 5 January, up from 15,680 visitors during the first five days of 2021.
Russia was the top source market with 6,700 holidaymakers representing a 27 percent market share, followed by Italy (3,162 tourists) and Germany (1,665 tourists). India, the top market of 2021, was down in fourth place with 1,480 tourists.
The year started with 161 resorts, 624 hotels and guesthouses and 145 safari vessels in operation with a combined capacity of 53,166 beds.
The Maldives aims to celebrate the golden jubilee of tourism this year with a record two million arrivals.
