George Corbin, an Italian tour operator who pioneered tourism in the Maldives, arrived on Tuesday (February 15) to take part in golden jubilee celebrations.
Corbin brought the first group of tourists to the Maldives on February 16, 1972.
“We have a lot of meetings organised with various associations to see what can be done, because I’m very interested in developing tourism in the U.S, which still there’s a huge market there,” Corbin, who now works as a consultant, told reporters at the airport about his six-day trip.
On Wednesday, Corbin joined his former partners Ahmed Naseem, Mohamed Umar Manik and Hussain Afeef to launch a golden jubilee stamp collection. The pioneers are due to take part in a talk show at the Maldives National University on Thursday afternoon.
