The national carrier Maldivian commenced scheduled flights to Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana on 27 March.
The Maldivian flight from Malé to Colombo was the inaugural flight as the upgraded airport in a suburb of the Sri Lankan capital resumed international operations after five decades. The 50-seat Dash-8 aircraft was welcomed with a celebratory water cannon salute and passengers were presented with gift packs from the Sri Lanka Tea Board followed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
Maldivian plans to increase its scheduled flights from thrice weekly to five flights a week in May.
