Faisal Al Mosawi, a disabled diver and athlete, broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to swim 1km in open water at Sun Island Resort & Spa in March.
The Egyptian achieved his first Guinness World Record title in August 2018 when he became the fastest 10km scuba diver with a record time of 5 hours and 24 minutes in Hurghada, Egypt. Taking on the challenge to beat his previous record, Faisal set a new record swim time of 52 minutes 31.14 seconds.
Sun Island’s dive centre diveOceanus helped with the preparations for the record-breaking swim in the island’s house reef. Located in the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) with exotic coral reefs and thriving marine life, the pristine waters provided the ideal location for the inspirational underwater challenge. After completing the challenge, Faisal joined a celebratory dive in the house reef with the diveOceanus team.
