Domestic carrier Manta Air commenced a charter flight service to the Hoarafushi Airport in Haa Alif Atoll under an agreement with JA Manafaru resort.

Manta will operate daily flights from the Velana International Airport to the northernmost atoll with its newly introduced Beechcraft 1900D, an 18-seater aircraft with a standing height aisle and an air-conditioned and high-ceiling cabin.

“We are delighted to partner with JA Manafaru to commence our operations to Hoarafushi Aiport. We are certain that the connectivity will not only benefit JA Manafaru, but also bring opportunities for the residents of Hoarafushi and nearby islands as well as the businesses in the area,” said Mohamed Khaleel, CEO of Manta Air.

The inaugural flight to Hoarafushi was welcomed with a special ceremony featuring a bodu beru (traditional Maldivian drum) performance and a presentation of a malaafaiy (a gift feast in an intricately decorated wooden container) from the island council to Manta’s passengers.

According to the airline, the Beechcraft 1900D is one of the fastest small aircraft currently available in the domestic market with speeds equivalent to that of its current ATR fleet in operation. The aircraft is also available for private charter operations.
