Position: General Manager

Appointee: Mohamed El Aghoury

What They Said: Aghoury has more than 25 years of experience working in the hospitality industry, working with with several well-known brands. He started his hospitality journey in 1993 at Sheraton Montazah Hotel, Alexandria. He has carried out the role of General Manager at brands in the United Arab Emirates including Four Points, Al Sondos Suites by Le Meridien, Meydan Hotel, and Bab Al Shams Desert Hotel. He was also the Cluster General Manager at Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort and Aloft Palm Jumeirah.

Throughout Aghoury’s career, he was recognised among the Hotelier MEA’s Top 50 General Manager Power List in the United Arab Emirates. He was also awarded ‘Best General Manager’ by Luxury Lifestyle Awards and at Hospitality Excellence Awards as General Manager of the Year.

As the new General Manager at Sheraton Maldives, Aghoury will oversee all operations of the resort as well as strategic commercial plans.

Resort: LUX* South Ari Atoll

Position: Director of Food & Beverage

Appointee: Mariun Andre Van Rooyen

What They Said: Mariun Van Rooyen has over over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, working in South Africa and the Maldives. After completing his degree in hospitality, he worked in the Capital Pearls as its Deputy General Manager. He also worked at Velassaru Maldives as the Director of Food & Beverage before joining the team at LUX* South Ari Atoll.

Throughout his career, Van Rooyen has maintained effective relationships with guests, suppliers, superiors, and subordinates. As the head of the Food & Beverage department at LUX* South Ari Atoll, he will be responsible for sourcing, planning, and procuring the resort’s food & beverage products and to oversee operations.
