The Canareef Resort started welcoming guests on Saturday (15 January) after a two-year hiatus.
Located in the southernmost atoll of Addu, Canareef shut down after the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020 and underwent renovations during the downtime.
“Going forward, despite the challenges ahead, we remain positive and will continue to enhance our product and increase our offerings here at Canareef Resort Maldives,” the resort said in a statement. “To that end, we have immense pleasure in announcing that we would be reopening more rooms in the coming days.”
Some 142 rooms east of the arrival jetty and reception area were made ready for guests in the first phase of the reopening. Canareef is an hour’s flight from Malé via the Gan International Airport in Addu City.
The South Palm Resort is the only other property currently in operation in Addu Atoll. The Shangrila Villigili remains closed.
