Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced plans to manage a new five-star resort scheduled to open in 2025.

Mandarin Oriental’s first property in the Maldives is under development on three manmade islands in the Bolidhuffaru lagoon in South Malé Atoll, about 20 minutes by speedboat from the Velana International Airport. The 34-hectare site is being developed by the Dubai-based luxury real estate developer DAMAC Properties.

“Mandarin Oriental is focused on developing its resort portfolio and has been looking to enter the Maldives for some time. This project represents the right opportunity for the Group” said James Riley, Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental.

Once construction is complete, the new resort will comprise 120 overwater and beachfront villas with private pools, including 10 branded Residences at Mandarin Oriental, along with a swimming pool, six dining outlets, tennis courts, kids and teens club, wellness facilities in a tropical garden, indoor and outdoor event spaces, and a watersports and dive centre.
