The Velana International Airport set a new record on 19 February with 839 air traffic movements.
The record traffic, which included 210 runway ATMs and 629 seaplane ATMs, reflects the faster than expected recovery of tourism after borders reopened in July 2020.
The previous record was set with 826 air traffic movements on 2 January.
Tourist arrivals stood at 210,184 as of 16 February, up 45 percent from the same period last year. Arrivals reached 80 percent of pre-pandemic levels in 2021 with 1.3 million tourists.
Some 35 international flights presently operate to the Maldives. Both the number of total passengers and air traffic movements at VIA last month saw a significant increase compared to January 2021.
