The Maldives won the accolade of ‘Best Island in Asia’ at this year’s Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.
Ambassador Thilmeeza Hussein accepted the award on behalf of the Maldives at a ceremony held at Dante Seaport, New York City on 20 July.
“Every award we win is an achievement for the whole nation, it is the result of the hard work, dedication and the commitment of the government، state agencies, tourism sector stakeholders, local and international partners, and tourism sector stakeholders,” said Thoyyib Mohamed, CEO of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation.
“The work to promote the destination and to welcome many visitors to the country needs continuous and collective effort. We will always face challenges, and as a destination, we will continue to find ways to stay ahead of our competition, ensuring all the while the we offer the best of the best to everyone who visits the Maldives.”
A top global travel media brand with a network of hundreds of writers and photographers, Travel + Leisure reaches more than 16 million travelers every month. The magazine’s World’s Best Awards ranks top hotels, resorts and more based on an annual reader survey.
The Maldives has bagged four other notable awards so far this year, including ‘Most Preferred Tourist Destination 2021’ and ‘Best Marketing Initiative of the Year’ for the ‘Redefining MICE’ campaign, as well as ‘Best Stand Design and Decoration’ at OTM, Mumbai and ‘Best Stand Feature’ at WTM Africa 2022. Last year, the Maldives retained the title of ‘World’s Leading Destination’ at the World Travel Awards for the second consecutive year.
