Sun Island Resort & Spa won the accolade of ‘Leading Sustainable Honeymoon Resort’ in the Marie Claire UK Sustainability Awards.

The award recognised the eco-luxury resort’s commitment towards environmental sustainability and ocean conservation.

“Set on one of the largest Maldives islands sprawled across 1.6km and located in South Ari Atoll near the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA), Sun Island Resort is a nature lover’s paradise overflowing with lush coconut palms and ample tropical vegetation,” according to the resort operator Villa Hotels & Resorts.

“Home to thriving biodiversity and marine life, the resort takes responsibility to preserve and protect the natural environment with a range of innovative strategies in place to maintain its Green-Key certification. Sun Island Resort has demonstrated unwavering commitment towards saving energy, recycling and progressing towards carbon neutrality. Guests are invited to get involved in supporting the resorts sustainable efforts and caring for the planet by adopting the eco-friendly practices in place, which include only washing linen when required, recycling and taking part in regular beach clean ups held on the island and nearby sandbank.”

Sun Island’s famed botanical gardens also produce a variety of tropical fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are served across a variety of restaurants, including the signature ‘garden to fork’ restaurant, Zero, perched atop a canopy of trees.
